White Sculpture in Freshman Land
Yellow Sculpture in front of Mackinaw Hall

Big Fountain in Front of Student Advising
The “Big Ben” of GVSU
Each of these pictures are taken at some of Grand Valleys most well-known locations around campus. The white sculpture (top left) is an important landmark because when you are a freshman at GVSU its a sculpture that you see and pass everyday. Its one of the first things you’ll remember when you look back on GVSU. The yellow sculpture (top right) is also a sculpture located on freshman land. If you were to say to anyone who goes to GVSU “Hey you know the yellow sculpture..” I can guarantee you they know exactly which one you’re talking about. The big fountain (bottom left) is a very beautiful landmark on GVSU’s campus. During the warmer seasons the fountain is flowing with beautiful blue water. It’s known as a site that many graduating students go to, to take their graduation photos. The “Big Ben” (bottom right) is probably the most important landmark on GVSU’s campus. The clock towers over buildings and is put right in the middle of campus. Everyone knows the clock and it’s beautiful chimes it makes throughout the day.

This rock is one of my many favorite places on the GVSU Allendale campus. I know it sounds weird to have a rock be a favorite location, but it has a deeper meaning. This rock is located right behind the white sculpture (shown in above section) in Freshman Land and is a trip down memory lane. Everyday when I was a freshman I passed this rock, and it always had a different face to look at. Every so often the rock is painted to support a different group at GVSU. Its ever so changing colors and designs are a main reason that this big rock is one of my favorite places at GVSU.
Memes
Left: Quidditch Middle: Hadouken Right: Vandering
Quidditch: looking like you’re driving when you are obviously not (just on my way to class)
Hadouken: Look like you’re “magically” pushing someone/sometime away (cigs are bad kids)
Vandering: Look like you’re “magically” choking someone. (I’m sorry Bill Seidman, it’s nothing personal)
Research Meme- You Were At My Wedding

“You were at my wedding Denise.” is a very current, popular, and funny meme that is spreading through social media. In reality, its origins are particularly annoying, stemming from a conservative Twitter beef between now-fired Federalist columnist DC “Denise” McAllister and Meghan McCain, John McCain’s daughter. McAllister had called the cultural value of daytime talk show The View in question, to which Meghan McCain — who, again, is John McCain’s daughter, if you’ve forgotten — replied with the now-memed line. The Grand Valley State University foundation has had a very successful year. According to the Grand Valley State University website (https://www.gvsu.edu/giving/ar2018/) a record of $26 million was raised this past year with the help of 14,000 donors. Some of their highlights include growth for the university endowment, a record number of alumni donors, 36 new donor-funded scholarships, the Gillette Society membership increased, the health campus expansion, and support for the Innovation Design Center for Engineering. Although the foundation has had a record breaking amount raised their intended goal is $85 million which means they have a bit of a ways to go in order to reach their goal.

Although I think GVSU is doing a great job at funding I do believe that they are asking for too much. The website stated that raised a record of $26 million in the past year but if you were to look above at the graph it shows that the record is actually $28.4 million in 2010, not 2018. Hmm suspicious. Other than that discrepancy the website stated that their goal is to reach $85 million next year and from looking at the graph it seems like a big shot to me. I know it’s good to have high goals but cmon GVSU do you really think you can jump $59 million dollars in the course of one year?
Future Alumni
I am currently a third year at GVSU and I have a lot of feelings about it. I am not a “school” kind of person but I will say that I really do love GVSU and the opportunities I have gained since becoming a student here. As I get closer and closer to graduation my excitement is continuing to grow. After I graduate I will be entirely grateful for a few things, the fact that I’m done with school (that’s a given) but also that I had such a beautiful campus and learning environment, that I met all of my close friends here.
